Abstract Studio Prompt Series: No. 2 - Indiscernable

Welcome to my series of blog posts demystifying the process of making abstract art. Abstraction doesn’t have to be intimidating or confusing. In this series, I will encourage you to explore your everyday surroundings in unexpected ways, allowing you to use your daily life as rich subject matter for your art.

Some artists you might look at are Matt Johnson (https://www.mattjohnson.la/) or Andrew Mister (https://www.dieudonne.org/andy-mister-paper-variable-2014) .View their works, then read the descriptions to reveal that they are made of completely unexpected materials.

Here is a conceptual prompt to get you thinking about discernment in your art.

Prompt:

Make a work of art (any medium) where the viewer will not be able to discern the materials or the method by which you made it. For example, blur the line between photography and drawing. Make it look like a drawing is actually sculptural. Or make clay appear as pencil marks somehow.
