Abstract Studio Prompt Series: No. 4 - Symmetrical Balance

Welcome to my series of blog posts demystifying the process of making abstract art. Abstraction doesn’t have to be intimidating or confusing. In this series, I will encourage you to explore your everyday surroundings in unexpected ways, allowing you to use your daily life as rich subject matter for your art.

Some artists you might look at are Julio le Parc and Victor Vasarely.

Prompt: Create a symmetrical design with a sense of balance between larger and smaller shapes.

On each side of the design, include:

  • 3 identical large shapes

  • 1 shape that is half the width of the large shape, same height

  • 1 small shape that is half the height of the large shape

  • 1 very small shape that is half the size of the ‘small shape’ above.
