Paper Lion Sculpture Activity

$9.00

Do your students love animals as much as they love art?

Encourage close-looking, deep inquiry, and hands-on art making in this refreshing Art History and Studio Art activity that is based on a sculpture of a lion from 18th-Century Germany. This .pptx document is ready to be incorporated into your lesson, and contains presenter notes with scripts of exactly what you could say to your students every step of the way!

Start with quiet looking and sketching of the art object, then move into a brief partner activity, followed by a mini lecture about the artwork (all information provided in Speaker Notes), then watch a video (exclusive links to my unlisted YouTube content included) to view steps for making your very own lion out of paper! Reflection prompts are also included to help you guide a discussion after children have completed their sculptures.

To make this project versatile for both online and in-person classes, the art materials can be flexible. You could simply use newspaper or copy paper and tape, or you could show your students how they might bend, fold, and attach a range of sturdier and more lightweight papers.

Develop visual literacy skills in this fun, interactive lesson!
